Location

Holbox, which means in Yucatan Maya "black hole", is a small Mexican island located in the extreme north of the state of Quintana Roo, 10 km off the northeast coast of the peninsula of Yucatan.

From Cancún, follow directions towards Merida, 50 km after the junction with "Nuevo Valladolid", follow signs for Kantunilkin-Holbox and arrive at the port of Chiquila, where you can take the ferry across the Yalahua Lagoon, the journey is aproximate 20 minutes, the schedules are as follows:

Chiquila to Holbox: 6:00, 8:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 17:00, 19:00

Holbox to Chiquila: 5:00,7:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 16:00, 18:00

Inside the island, all the roads are white sand, there is no pavement and few cars. The traditional means of transport are gasoline golf carts, bicycle and on foot.
